    If the structure of your natural tooth has been compromised enough it could jeopardize the health of the roots. Porcelain crowns serve as a restorative and cosmetic solution.   This will protect the function of the tooth as well as create an elegant tooth. Why should I straighten my teeth?2020-02-02T22:37:13+00:00

    Everyone likes straight teeth, they look great and have many functional benefits.  Straighter teeth make chewing, biting and speech functions more effective. Jaw pain and TMJ issues are less likely.  There are many different types of malocclusion including overcrowding, crossbite, overbite, and underbite. All of these types of malocclusion can have negative impacts on the cosmetic appearance, but most importantly the functionality of the teeth.

    What can be done with old silver fillings?2020-02-02T22:37:17+00:00

    Older amalgam fillings and restorations can not only look unsightly, but also could be defective and wearing down.  When a filling gets old it the margins (where the tooth and filling meet) may break down and allow the bacteria and possible food debris to enter.  This can cause potential tooth decay.

    At your new patient or regular exams we will monitor all existing filling and determine if any are in need of replacement.  If you simply would like to simply replace the silver ones for white one we can always assist you on which ones you should do first.  There are some different options when it come to replacements;

    Composite (bonded) fillings:  These are tooth colored fillings that are closely matched to your tooth shade.  They are great for front teeth or visible parts of teeth. They are the best ways to update and change your smile.

    Crowns (Caps):  This type of restoration are used when a tooth has too much damage to be repaired by a filling.  A crown is a hollow, artificial tooth used to cover a damaged or decayed tooth. The crown restores the tooth and protects it from further damage. Crowns can also be used to cover a discoloured or misshapen tooth. A tooth that has been fixed with a crown looks and works very much like a natural tooth.

    Inlays and Onlays: These restorations are a custom made fillings.  They can be made out of a few different materials like gold or porcelain. Depending on the material they can be made in office using the CEREC in only one appointment.   They are usually suited best for posterior teeth that have large decay or damage.

    Porcelain Veneers: Veneers are a thin shell of tooth shaped porcelain that are crafted individually.  They are permanently bonded on the front surface of the teeth. They are a great solution for many scenarios such as misaligned, chipped or discoloured teeth.  They can also close unwanted spaces between teeth. Veneers are cosmetically pleasing and strong.

    What is a dental implant?2020-02-02T22:37:21+00:00

    Dental implants are tiny titanium posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These titanium posts act as artificial tooth roots, and typically support a dental crown. Together, the implant and crown act as a permanent replacement for a missing tooth.  Dental implants restorations that function and look much like natural teeth do. They are fixed, and so cannot be removed like dentures. With proper care and good oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.
